To ensure students have a solid wonk foundation, the Office of Advising utilizes placement testing to determine students’ level of skill in one or increasingly wonk areas. This allows UMA staff to identify the most towardly courses for enrollment. Students may be waived from placement testing with towardly test scores, previous higher coursework, or other criteria. Please note, SAT/ACT scores are valid for three years from the test date. Math placement testing scores are valid for 1.5 years from the test date. SAT Scores for Placement NOTE: SAT scores must be current to be used for placement.  Current is specified as exams taken within the past three years. SAT English Scores: If a student scores 500 or higher on the reading portion of the SAT, he/she does not have to take the placement test.  The student can automatically enter into ENG 101HigherWriting. SAT Math Scores: Students who score a 480 or higher on the math portion of the SAT are not required to take the UMA Placement Test.  Score ranges unelevated will establish towardly placement in math courses: Scores less than 480: student must completed the Math portion of the UMA placement test for undertow placement. 480 but <500: Eligible for MAT 100 500 and above: Eligible for MAT 100, 111, 115, or any undertow with a MAT 30 prerequisite. 540 and whilom and Algebra II completed onUpperSchool transcript with a grade of “C” or better: Eligible to take MAT 112, 113, or any undertow with a MAT 111 prerequisite. Score ranges unelevated will establish towardly placement in math courses: Scores less than 17: student must well-constructed the Math portion of the UMA placement test for undertow placement. ACT Math Score 17: Eligible for MAT 100 ACT Math Score 18 and Above: Eligible for MAT 100, 111, 115, or any undertow with a MAT 30 prerequisite. ACT Math Score 22 and whilom and Algebra II completed onUpperSchool transcript with a grade of “C” or better: Eligible to take MAT 112, 113, or any undertow with a MAT 111 prerequisite. What are the tests like? UMA administers the Accuplacer in Reading Comprehension, Sentence Skills, Arithmetic Skills, Elementary Algebra and College-Level Mathematics. The tests are administered on a personal computer. It is an untimed multiple-choice exam. When you first sit at the computer, you will be asked to enter some preliminaries information such as your social security number, name, address, stage of birth, etc. The very test questions will towards one at a time on the computer screen. The tests will ask you to select the correct response from among four or five alternatives presented in writing.
