While prior communications had indicated that Jewett Hall would be the unorganized location, the number of expected participants requires a variegated venue. Please review the information unelevated carefully. LOCATION of Convocation – Augusta Civic Center, First Floor North Wing Faculty and Staff Those participating in the processional will need to victorious at the Augusta Civic Center at 2:15 p.m. and report to the Kennebec Room for robing. The Processional will start promptly at 3:00 p.m. Please notify your guests of this transpiration in venue for Convocation. Rising Scholars Rising Scholars are asked to victorious at the Augusta Civic Center by 2:00 p.m. and report to the Penobscot Room. About Faculty Employees Students Guests RSVP 2018/19WonkTheme: Freedom of Speech In academia, convocation is the event officially welcoming students to their wonk career. It is intended moreover to convey to students the importance of their educational work and to show the school’s transferral to support students as they pursue their education. At UMA, Convocation marks the whence of a new wonk year, and with that, a new wonk theme.  The UMA Colloquium is pleased to signify that the 2018-2019 wonk theme is Freedom of Speech. Freedom of speech is a principle that supports the worthiness of an individual or a polity to yacky their opinions and ideas without fear of retaliation, censorship, or sanction. Part of this year’s wonk theme includes the adoption of a single theme-related typesetting by a number of classes wideness the curriculum: Free Speech for Me But Not For Thee, by Nat Hentoff. Rising Scholars Rising Scholars are moreover recognized at Convocation for both wonk victory and promise.  Students are nominated considering they have excelled in academics, engaged in the UMA community, or are someone who faculty/staff believe shows unconfined potential and promise as student scholars.
